The central theme of this profile of Choi Min-soo is cheekbones and jaw revealed by strong contrast. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.
Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw
The angles of the cheekbones and chin are clear, and the vertical length is emphasized. Strong side lighting reveals the side of one cheek.
In this composition, the border from one cheek to the chin is clearly revealed rather than the width of both sides of the face. By connecting the outer line of the cheekbones and the bending point of the chin, you can distinguish between the width of the face and the depth of the sides.
Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows
The forehead is open with the hair pulled back. Horizontal lines appear on the forehead due to the expression of moving the eyebrows.
In compositions where the forehead is exposed, you can see a wide area extending from the hairline to the eyebrows. Comparing the direction of the upper curve and the lower eyebrows makes it clear what lines surround the upper part of the face.
Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

The eyes are narrowed when exposed to strong light, and lines are visible around the corners of the eyes.
The shape of the eye can be better revealed by dividing it into the horizontal length and vertical opening. The curve of the upper eyelid, the lower border, and the area that tapers to the corner of the eye combine to form a single outline.
Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes
Dark and thick eyebrows come together from the inside, creating deep contrast over the eyes.
Eyebrows can be examined by distinguishing between the density of color and the curve of the line. By comparing the inner thickness and the direction of the outer edge with the eyelid line, you can see how the outline surrounding the eye is formed.
Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth
The bridge and tip of the nose are prominently protruded, and a shadow appears next to one side of the nose.
The tip of the nose and both nostrils are areas where small curved surfaces are gathered. If you look at the widening border on both sides instead of just looking at the bright side in the center, you can see the width that changes from the bridge of the nose to the bottom of the nose.
Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face
Lips and Mouth Corners
The moment you open your mouth slightly, you can see the gap between your upper and lower lips.
Jawline and Chin
The lower jaw leaves an angle and the width is maintained at the tip of the chin.
In scenes where there is a gap between the lips, the boundaries of the upper and lower lips are revealed. If you look at the degree of mouth opening and the space left up to the chin, you can see how momentary movement changes the length of the lower face.
Step 7: Overall Balance — Cheekbones and Jaw Revealed by Strong Contrast
In Choi Min-soo's face, side lighting makes the angles of the cheekbones and lower jaw clear. Since this is a scene that includes the facial expression lines of the forehead and the gathered eyebrows, it is possible to distinguish between the fixed outline of the face and the boundary created by light and expression.
