The central theme of this profile of Hwangbo is thick brows and a defined profile. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.

Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw

The width of the cheekbones and the border of the lower jaw are revealed together. A clear lateral outline remains within the vertical length of the face.

Even within the large oval frame, the width of the cheekbones and chin are not the same. If you follow the speed from the widest part of the face down to the tip of the chin, you can see changes in the outline that are not revealed by length alone.

Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows

The side parting opens one side of the forehead and covers the other side. The curved surface of the forehead is visible in the exposed part.

You should look at the shape of the exposed part of the forehead and the hair on both sides. Since the parting and bangs are the lines that divide the upper margin, there is no need to immediately interpret the asymmetry seen in the photo as asymmetry of the forehead itself.

Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

The upper and lower borders of the eyes are emphasized with dark eye makeup. The eyes are long horizontally and clearly extend outward.

The shape of the eye can be better revealed by dividing it into the horizontal length and vertical opening. The curve of the upper eyelid, the lower border, and the area that tapers to the corner of the eye combine to form a single outline.

Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes

The eyebrows are dark and arched outward. The thick line above the eyes creates upper contrast.

Eyebrows can be examined by distinguishing between the density of color and the curve of the line. By comparing the inner thickness and the direction of the outer edge with the eyelid line, you can see how the outline surrounding the eye is formed.

Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth

The bridge of the nose is relatively long, revealing the rounded tip of the nose. Lighting on one side creates a difference in contrast.

The long bridge of the nose creates a central line that extends from between the eyes to above the lips. Comparing the narrow width of the bridge of the nose and the rounded surface of the tip, the parts that appear as lines and the parts that appear as surfaces can be distinguished within the same nose.

Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face

Lips and Mouth Corners

The width of the mouth and upper teeth are visible in the smile. The curve of the center of the lips and the rise of the corners of the mouth are clear.

Jawline and Chin

A diagonal line runs from under the cheekbones to the chin, and the tip of the chin is round. A slight angle remains on both sides of the lower jaw.

When the mouth opens or the corners of the mouth rise, the width of the mouth and the space left up to the chin also change. If you look at the raised position of the cheeks and the tip of the chin together rather than just the lips, you can see the process by which a smile changes the ratio of the lower jaw.

Step 7: Overall Balance — Thick Brows and a Defined Profile

Hwangbo's face is clearly divided in the upper part by thick eyebrows and the border around the eyes. At the bottom, the outlines of the nose, lips, and chin are connected, so the placement of the upper and lower lines explains the overall composition rather than the density of one area.

Hwangbo's Facial Features at a Glance

  • Face shape: The width of the cheekbones and the border of the lower jaw are revealed.
  • Eyes: Dark eye makeup emphasizes the upper and lower borders of the eyes.
  • Chin: A diagonal line runs from under the cheekbones to the chin, and the tip of the chin is round.

Together, these features show how the face's outer contour relates to the eyes and lower face. Looking at the connections between lines and surfaces helps explain the overall balance visible in this photograph.
