The central theme of this profile of Jang Dong-min is thick brows and an angular jawline. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.

Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw

The angle of the lower jaw remains in the long outline extending from the cheekbones to the chin.

The angled part does not mean that the entire face is square, but it means that the section where the direction of the curve changes is visible. If you follow the line that goes down from the side of the cheekbones to the lower jaw, the difference between the straight section and the round section is revealed.

Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows

A hat and short bangs cover the upper part of the forehead.

In this composition, the border of the upper face is not the hairline, but the edge of the hat. Therefore, the height or width of the entire forehead cannot be determined just by looking at the space above the eyebrows, and can be examined by focusing on the area exposed under the hat.

Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

The eyes are long horizontally and the vertical width decreases slightly depending on the smile.

In photos with facial expressions, the vertical width of the eyes and the height of the cheeks below the eyes change. If you look at the curve of the lower eyelid rather than just looking at one point at the corner of the eye, you can read the movement of the center of the face more specifically.

Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes

The dark eyebrows extend relatively straight and lie close to the eyes.

The low eyebrows can be compared side by side with the horizontal line of the eyes. Looking at where the eyebrows start and end and how thin they become at the ends reveals the relationship between the two overlapping lines at the top.

Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth

The bridge of the nose is long and the tip is round.

The long bridge of the nose creates a central line that extends from between the eyes to above the lips. Comparing the narrow width of the bridge of the nose and the rounded surface of the tip, the parts that appear as lines and the parts that appear as surfaces can be distinguished within the same nose.

Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face

Lips and Mouth Corners

With an open smile, the upper teeth are visible and the corners of the mouth are raised to the sides.

Jawline and Chin

The angle of the lower jaw is visible, and a rounded width remains at the tip of the chin.

When the mouth opens or the corners of the mouth rise, the width of the mouth and the space left up to the chin also change. If you look at the raised position of the cheeks and the tip of the chin together rather than just the lips, you can see the process by which a smile changes the ratio of the lower jaw.

Step 7: Overall Balance — Thick Brows and an Angular Jawline

Jang Dong-min's thick eyebrows can be compared with the angle left on the lower jaw. If you connect the horizontal line of the smiling mouth, the dark line at the top, the facial expression in the center, and the large outline at the bottom are all of different sizes.

Jang Dong-min's Facial Features at a Glance

  • Face shape: The long outline from the cheekbones to the chin leaves an angle at the lower jaw.
  • Eyes: The eyes are long horizontally and become slightly narrower vertically depending on the smile.
  • Chin: The angle of the lower jaw is visible and a rounded width remains at the tip of the chin.

Together, these features show how the face's outer contour relates to the eyes and lower face. Looking at the connections between lines and surfaces helps explain the overall balance visible in this photograph.
