The central theme of this profile of Kim Hyo-jin is a long face and a wide smile. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.
Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw
It is a long oval shape where the width of the cheekbones and cheeks converge at the tip of the small chin.
Even within the large oval frame, the width of the cheekbones and chin are not the same. If you follow the speed from the widest part of the face down to the tip of the chin, you can see changes in the outline that are not revealed by length alone.
Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows
The forehead is exposed through the middle parting, and wavy hair covers both sides.
You should look at the shape of the exposed part of the forehead and the hair on both sides. Since the parting and bangs are the lines that divide the upper margin, there is no need to immediately interpret the asymmetry seen in the photo as asymmetry of the forehead itself.
Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

The eyes are long horizontally and the downward curve rises as the smile approaches.
In photos with facial expressions, the vertical width of the eyes and the height of the cheeks below the eyes change. If you look at the curve of the lower eyelid rather than just looking at one point at the corner of the eye, you can read the movement of the center of the face more specifically.
Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes
The eyebrows have a low arch and taper outward.
The low eyebrows can be compared side by side with the horizontal line of the eyes. Looking at where the eyebrows start and end and how thin they become at the ends reveals the relationship between the two overlapping lines at the top.
Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth
The bridge of the nose is long and thin, and the tip of the nose is rounded.
The long bridge of the nose creates a central line that extends from between the eyes to above the lips. Comparing the narrow width of the bridge of the nose and the rounded surface of the tip, the parts that appear as lines and the parts that appear as surfaces can be distinguished within the same nose.
Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face
Lips and Mouth Corners
The smiling mouth widens horizontally and the upper teeth are visible.
Jawline and Chin
The lower jaw is narrowly gathered, leaving a rounded surface at the tip of the small chin.
When the mouth opens or the corners of the mouth rise, the width of the mouth and the space left up to the chin also change. If you look at the raised position of the cheeks and the tip of the chin together rather than just the lips, you can see the process by which a smile changes the ratio of the lower jaw.
Step 7: Overall Balance — A Long Face and a Wide Smile
Kim Hyo-jin's long, thin facial lines contrast with her mouth widened with a smile. The horizontal line of the mouth is placed within the outline that converges from the width of the cheek to the small tip of the chin, showing both the long vertical frame and the lateral movement of the facial expression.
