The central theme of this profile of Shin Min-a is curved smiling cheeks and a small chin. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.

Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw

It has an oval shape with a contrast between the rounded cheeks and the small tip of the chin.

Even within the large oval frame, the width of the cheekbones and chin are not the same. If you follow the speed from the widest part of the face down to the tip of the chin, you can see changes in the outline that are not revealed by length alone.

Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows

The forehead is exposed through the center parting, and thin hair falls on both sides.

You should look at the shape of the exposed part of the forehead and the hair on both sides. Since the parting and bangs are the lines that divide the upper margin, there is no need to immediately interpret the asymmetry seen in the photo as asymmetry of the forehead itself.

Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

When smiling, the eyes narrow and the corners of the eyes fold gently.

In photos with facial expressions, the vertical width of the eyes and the height of the cheeks below the eyes change. If you look at the curve of the lower eyelid rather than just looking at one point at the corner of the eye, you can read the movement of the center of the face more specifically.

Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes

The eyebrows are low and relatively straight, matching the horizontal direction of the eyes.

The low eyebrows can be compared side by side with the horizontal line of the eyes. Looking at where the eyebrows start and end and how thin they become at the ends reveals the relationship between the two overlapping lines at the top.

Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth

The bridge of the nose falls thin and the tip of the nose is rounded.

The long bridge of the nose creates a central line that extends from between the eyes to above the lips. Comparing the narrow width of the bridge of the nose and the rounded surface of the tip, the parts that appear as lines and the parts that appear as surfaces can be distinguished within the same nose.

Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face

Lips and Mouth Corners

The mouth widens in a smile that exposes the upper teeth. Small concave surfaces on the cheeks are visible along with the corners of the mouth.

Jawline and Chin

The lower jaw gently narrows to a small chin tip.

When the mouth opens or the corners of the mouth rise, the width of the mouth and the space left up to the chin also change. If you look at the raised position of the cheeks and the tip of the chin together rather than just the lips, you can see the process by which a smile changes the ratio of the lower jaw.

Step 7: Overall Balance — Curved Smiling Cheeks and a Small Chin

Shin Min-a's smiling cheeks reveal small concavities next to the corners of her mouth. If you connect the narrowed eyes, the widened mouth, and the small tip of the chin, you can see the difference in the curved surface that changes into the expression and the width of the outer face at the same time.

Shin Min-a's Facial Features at a Glance

  • Face shape: Oval with contrasting round cheeks and small chin.
  • Eyes: When smiling, the eyes narrow and the corners of the eyes fold gently.
  • Chin: The lower jaw gently narrows to a small chin.

Together, these features show how the face's outer contour relates to the eyes and lower face. Looking at the connections between lines and surfaces helps explain the overall balance visible in this photograph.
